DIY-rejsekurser til York universitet

Mulige rejseuger i skoleåret 2025-26:

The Norwegian Study Centre

About Us

The Norwegian Study Centre is part of the University of York, established and funded by the Norwegian government. Since the early 1980s, it has offered students and teachers high quality courses and an opportunity for immersion in the languages, contemporary literatures, and cultures of Britain.

Our Interactive Seminars

All NSC modules have been designed to provide a British perspective on the values and principles, aims and objectives of English subject curricula throughout Scandinavia to encourage comparison, critical thought and engagement.

Our seminars feature:

  • Key themes in English education, such as: Democracy and Citizenship, Sustainability, and Health and Life Skills
  • Creative ideas for promoting language learning in the classroom
  • Explorations into local cultures and patterns of communication
  • Diverse authentic English-language texts to develop intercultural understanding
  • Unique topics in language, 21st century literatures, current affairs and culture
  • Opportunities to communicate in English and gain a better understanding of dialects in Northern England and Scotland

York as your classroom

Seminars typically run from 9 am - 2 pm with time in the afternoon for exploring York. All programmes include at least one cultural enhancement activity, such as:

Theatre experience: A favourite! York is well served by theatres and frequent touring productions from London. Performances are introduced by our experienced staff to provide context and to foster engagement with the arts.

School visit: Highly recommended! Spend a morning or afternoon observing the English Education system with a visit to a local Primary or Secondary school.

Guided tours: Deepen your understanding of York’s history and modern identity as a capital of the north with guided tours of the city, including Roman and Viking ruins. The tour also includes a walk on a portion of the city’s Roman walls and a visit to the Shambles where groups will see the street that inspired Harry Potter’s “Diagon Alley”!

York Minster: Visit Europe’s largest gothic cathedral North of the Alps and learn about its 800-year history from knowledgeable and engaging guides.

Plus! Daily activities that send you out into York for real-life application of your learning at bookstores, museums, pubs and more!
